Two retired nuclear scientists are living a quiet life in an isolated cottage by the sea as the world around them crumbles. Then an old friend arrives with a frightening request. This play is gripping and darkly funny; it’s a far-reaching, unsettling play about legacy, survival and responsibility. And it will have you on the edge of your seat.

“the best play in town… masterfully directed by Carlo Lorenzo Garcia…replete with absolutely riveting acting…This play twists and turns and astonishes with every moment, every beat. Pamela Francesca Christian, Katherine Schroeder and David R. Jarrott are consummate artists that leave no stone unturned, no detail ignored and have a ‘take no prisoners’ acting technique that astonishes.”

“delightful…dynamic…three natural, moving performances…a thought-provoking exploration of vital questions and accusations that we all must face in a world heading closer and closer to disaster.”

– Andrew Friedenthal, Austin American-Statesman

“Darkness hovers over the plot, the set, and the concept of Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children…Director Carlo Lorenzo García co-designed the meticulously detailed set with Michael Krauss, and Alison Lewis's lighting enhanced the mood throughout.  The Children offers, once again, evidence of Jarrott's discerning taste in contemporary drama.”

– Michael Meigs, Central Texas Live Theatre

PAMELA FRANCESCA CHRISTIAN (Rose) I’m drawn to The Children because the ideas in the script are smart and timely, but they also really scare me. This one is definitely out of my comfort zone! I got into theater by following my Dad around when I was a kid.  He was a great baritone who sang musicals and opera. My job? to turn pages for the piano player, carry his makeup bag and check props, and of course I never wanted to leave.

KATHERINE SCHROEDER (Hazel) My theatrical career began in the second grade, although if my mother were here, she would assure you that it started looooong before that.  However, the official start – evening performance, paying audience – was in the second grade, when I embodied Mamie Eisenhower in a wedding dress, singing Get Me to the Church on Time.  In an early demonstration of my constant striving for verisimilitude, I even curled my bangs into a roll to better personify the first lady; this despite the obstacles of the wedding dress and the Broadway musical number!  Nothing in the many years since has diminished my zeal for this delicate balancing act.

DAVID R. JARROTT (Robin) I’m told that I was dramatic even in the womb, but my theatrical career began in earnest when I was 10 years old and performed with what was then the San Antonio Little Theatre. I was extremely nervous about this undertaking and didn’t want to do it—until I got my first laugh and heard my first applause. And that moment has brought us to now. I had the good fortune of seeing The Children on Broadway in January of last year, and determined that I had to stage it myself. It’s a chilling tale—sly, gripping, darkly funny; one that will stay with you.
