About the Play
The Weir by Conor McPherson is an atmospheric, quietly unsettling play set in a rural Irish pub on a stormy night, where five people confide the stories they can't explain. First performed at London's Royal Court Theatre in 1997, this modern classic is a meditation on storytelling, loneliness, and the closeness that comes from sitting with someone in front of a mystery neither of you can resolve.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals will begin the week of January 11, 2027 and run through February 6, weeknights and Saturdays. Tech rehearsals begin February 9 at Trinity Street Playhouse. A detailed rehearsal and tech schedule will be distributed no later than our first rehearsal. Not all performers will be called for every rehearsal.
The cast of The Weir will work with a dialect coach to develop the play's regional Irish accents, both as a group and in individual sessions. These sessions will happen ahead of the rehearsal period, which begins January 11. Attendance is required, but sessions will be built around each actor's availability.
Please list any known conflicts on the sign-up form, including for December dialect coaching sessions. As a policy, conflicts after January 24 will not be approved, though exceptions may be considered at the production team's discretion.
Performances
February 18 – March 7
Thursdays–Saturdays at 7:30pm
Sundays at 2:30pm
All performances will take place at Trinity Street Playhouse.
Performers must be available for all scheduled performances.
This is a non-union production; each performer will receive a stipend of $650.
Roles to Be Cast
Age ranges below describe the characters, not the performers — if you feel you can believably portray a role, we encourage you to submit. When in doubt, please defer toward auditioning, or reach out with questions.
JACK: Male-presenting, 50s - a local; gruff and set in his ways but not without warmth underneath; runs the local garage.
JIM: Male-presenting, 40s - a local; quiet, gentle and a homebody; cares for his elderly mother.
BRENDAN: Male-presenting, 30s - a local; owns the pub where the play takes place; unmarried, and a little reserved.
FINBAR: Male-presenting, late 40s - a local; married and successful; at odds with those around him
VALERIE: Female-presenting, 30s - recently arrived from Dublin; an outsider
Audition Sides & Full Script
Each character has two sides in the linked Drive. On the sign-up form, you'll choose one character to audition for, and your initial read will be from that character's sides — performers may also be asked to read from additional sides during their audition. Please familiarize yourself with them in advance; memorization is not required. Performers are welcome to review the full script for context.
Audition Sign-Up
Auditions are in-person only (no video submissions at this time). Complete the form below, including an optional headshot/resume — you'll select your audition time slot there as well.
The deadline to sign up is Thursday, August 27 at 5pm.
